Sustainable seafood is seafood from either fished or farmed sources that can maintain or increase production in the future without jeopardizing the ecosystems from which it was acquired. The sustainable seafood movement has gained momentum as more people become aware of both overfishing and environmentally destructive fishing methods.
Due to public concern about overfishing and the relevance of seafood being sustainable, many seafood restaurants have started to use sustainable alternatives and in some cases only use sustainable produce on their menus. The MSC (msc.org) aims to educate chefs and people alike about the choices they make to ensure they use the most sustainable produce.
At FishCo we are totally commited to responsible sourcing of the best available catch from approved fisheries. We act within the UK and EU guidelines whilst trying to promote a wider variety of species to our customers. The best way to do this is have a good range of contacts at the source - the fishing boats. We have daily contact with all of our suppliers and their fleets to ensure we can provide the highest quality most sustainable seafood.
